Location

Convenience Cards

Oregon Residents, OSU Alumni, Community Patrons, & Visiting Faculty and Scholars without ONID

The Oregon State University Libraries offers free access to many on-site resources to Oregon residents and OSU Alumni at the Valley Library in Corvallis, at the Guin Library at Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, and at the OSU-Cascades Library in Bend.

With an OSU Convenience Card and photo identification, borrowers may have:

  • Up to 25 items for 30 days from the general collection.
  • Up to 10 holds on items that are checked out.
  • Use of items from the Course Reserves collection.
  • Use of items located in Storage at the Corvallis campus, Guin Library in Newport and OSU Cascades Library in Bend.
  • Access to on-site resources, including self-service copying, scanning, library catalogs, Learning Commons computers, and Information Desk service.

Register at the front desk in one of the libraries by presenting a completed application, which is available at the desk or printable. Patron records are valid for one year and may be renewed in person with proof of residency.

An OSU Convenience Card must be purchased for $1 and is required along with photo identification when checking out materials.

If unpaid fines exceed $100 or when 25 items have been reached patrons will need to reduce their fines under $100 or reduce their checked out materials to less than 25 to check out more materials.

Patrons may view and renew their items online through the My Library Account:

  • OSU Accounts - log in with your ONID username and password
  • Non-OSU Accounts - log in with your Convenience Card ID no. and your password. If it is your first time to log in, your password is your last name (first letter capital) and the last 4 digits of your Convenience Card number. If your last name is 3 characters or less, add more digits from the end of your ID number until you reach 8 characters.

Oregon Residents

Oregon residents, 16 years of age or older, need to bring proof of a current Oregon mailing address, such as an Oregon drivers license or a piece of canceled mail; name and phone number of a friend, relative or family member who can get a message to you if you cannot be reached; proof of age; and photo identification.

Minors (under the age of 16) may obtain a library card with the above information along with the name and signature of a parent or legal guardian.

OSU Alumni Association

OSU Alumni Association members do not need to be an Oregon resident, but need to show a current Alumni Association card in lieu of proof of Oregon residency. Photo identification is required to create an account.

Oregon Library Passport Program

The Oregon Library Passport Program allows cardholders of participating Oregon libraries to borrow materials and use digital resources at other participating libraries. It is a joint effort by the Oregon State Library and Oregon State University Libraries. For a list of participating libraries and more information go to Oregon Library Passport Program.

Affiliated with another Summit Institution & looking to access those services at OSU-Cascades?

Check to see if your institution is a Summit institution.

We are happy to provide these services to you, once you complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out a Library Account Application (including your Summit Institution & ID)
  2. Bring this form to the OSU-Cascades Library
  3. Show a staff member that you can login to your institution's library account
  4. We will then look to see when that account expires
  5. The staff member will create an account for you and provide you with your login information

This process may take a few days.

OSU Libraries Resources for Visiting Faculty and Scholars

For the most complete access to the full resources of OSU Libraries, visiting faculty need:

  • An ONID (OSU Network IDentification)
  • An OSU identification card or, alternately, an OSU Libraries convenience card
    • OSU Libraries does grant OSU Libraries convenience cards. You can print the form at this link: http://osulibrary.oregonstate.edu/files/Visit.pdf
  • An Interlibrary Loan (ILL) account
    • An ONID account is required to set up an ILL account

If your department does not arrange an ONID account for you:

  • You can use materials from the OSU Libraries collection in the library (you may not take them out of the library without an OSU Libraries convenience card or OSU identification card).
  • You may access the Visitor Wireless network (https://beav.es/JqT, requires sign in every 4 hours) or use the Eduroam network if your home institution participates (http://oregonstate.edu/helpdocs/network/wireless/eduroam-wireless). You may not access OSU Libraries online subscription resources using the Visitor Wireless network or the Eduroam network.
